On July 19, Xi’an Spectral Lab for Calligraphy and Painting Works by XIOPM, CAS and Shaanxi Culture Assets and Equity Exchange was unveiled.
The Lab, the first one for calligraphy and painting appraisal in China, will take advantages of optical technology to scan and analyze calligraphy and painting works, induce the law of creation of artists through data analysis, and solve difficulties in appraisal of works of art.
Even aesthetic problems in traditional sense can be given solutions through contemporary sciences with science and technology advancing by leaps and bounds, for example, the law of creation in calligraphy and painting works. Spectral imaging technology will not only make people possible to “see” aesthetic law, but also offer technical supports for collection, circulation, inheritance and exchange of works of art by establishing sound database system. It is understood that research findings of the Lab will prepare powerful reference for the industry standard system of works of art currently underway.
