Vascular Imaging Instrument Developed by XIOPM Assists China to Aid Liberia to Resist Ebola

Recent days, aiding Liberia medical corps of the Chinese People's Liberation Army with Chongqing Third Medical University as its main force took the private plane to Liberia to resist Ebola epidemic. The medical corps not only took necessary medical equipment, but, for the first time, took two sets of important medical auxiliary equipment which are jointly researched and developed by XIOPM CAS and its joint-stock company Vivolight Medical Device & Technology Co., Ltd. and are named Model V300 “Projective Infrared Vascular Imaging Instrument”. The said instrument is the global first one that can identify vascular location and depth at the same time, and will help the medical workers to save Ebola patients, improve the work efficiency of the medical workers and relieve the patients’ pain.

It is reported that the medical corps will ahead for the capital of Liberia to establish an Ebola Hemorrhagic Fever Diagnosis and Medical Center and set 100 beds to help Liberia to prevent and control the Ebola hemorrhagic fever epidemic.

Liberia is the one country that suffers from the Ebola epidemic most, and the epidemic is very dangerous. There’s no vaccine and effective medical method against the epidemic yet. According to the statistics by World Health Organization, the death rate of Ebola reaches 60%~90%, and the prevention grade is level 4 which is the maximum biosecurity level, and the prevention level for SARS is only level 3. The medical corps set a special team which is mainly responsible for blood collection and examination, but there exists difficulty in drawing blood from Africans since their skin color is black. Besides, the medical workers wear heavy protection suit, goggles and several gloves, which make it really hard to find the vascular. In such case, “Projective Infrared Vascular Imaging Instrument” becomes especially important.

“Projective Infrared Vascular Imaging Instrument”adopts the principle that hemoglobin in the vascular to near-infrared light differs from other tissues. By conducting processing a series of digital imaging and making original location of vascular showing on the skin surface, medical workers will easily recognize the tiny blood vessels 8-10mm under the skin. Where using the instrument, the patients shall put their arms under the Vascular Imaging Instrument, switch it on, and the vessels will be clearly and reliably showed, whatever the skin color is.
