Professor Wu Junqiao of University of California-Berkeley Was Hired to Be Guest Researcher of XIOPM

In the afternoon on July 14, the appointment ceremony, hiring Professor Wu Junqiao of University of California-Berkeley to be the guest researcher of XIOPM, was held in State Key Laboratory of Transient Optics and Photonics, XIOPM. More than 30 persons attended the ceremony, including Director of XIOPM Zhao Wei, chief of Science and Management Department Xie Xiaoping, deputy directors of State Key Laboratory of Transient Optics and Photonics Wang Yishan and Yao Baoli, director of Department of Graduates Li Jinfang as well as staff and students of State Key Laboratory of Transient Optics and Photonics. The ceremony was presided by Man Peng, director of HR Department.  

Professor Wu Junqiao currently holds the director of Graduates Admission Committee of Department of Materials Science, University of California-Berkeley. He has over 150 papers published on world-leading journals and won important academic rewards many a time. He is one of the rare scientists in American academia who won both DOE Office of Science’s Early Career Award for Scientists and Engineers and NSF Office of Science’s Early Career Award for Scientists and Engineers. In 2013, he won Presidential Early Career Award for Scientists and Engineers From the President of the United State of America and was greeted by President Obama in the White House. Also, he hosted or participated in 12 key research projects funded by NSF, DOE, NIST and industrial circles (Siemens and Samsung).  

On the ceremony, Man Peng introduced Professor Wu Junqiao’s basic information and scientific achievements he obtained. He noted that this meeting was the specific implementation of the concept “Appreciate top talents and introduce more talents” proposed by director Zhao Wei. Professor Wu Junqiao’s joining XIOPM will surely improve XIOPM’s international influence in relevant fields.  

With waves of warm applauses, Zhao Wei awarded letter of appointment of guest researcher to Professor Wu Junqiao and they signed the Employment Agreement. Zhao Wei expressed his warm welcome and sincere appreciation for Professor Wu Junqiao’s joining XIOPM. He emphasized that talents group building mattered the future development of XIOPM and hoped that Professor Wu Junqiao’s joining would get the effect of talents gathering and induce scientific achievements to produce “nuclear fission”.  

Later, Professor Wu Junqiao made academic report titled with Defects and Alloys of Semiconductors and exchanged ideas with participants.
