CAS graduate social survey special financial aid is aimed at helping graduates have a better understanding of national conditions, society conditions and conditions of the people so as to deepen their understanding of the party’s line, principles and policies, enhance their sense of responsibilities and missions and improve their capacities and abilities. The fund is mainly used to support graduates of our institute to utilize after-class time and summer and winter vocations to carry out social survey in grass roots such as enterprises and public institutions and villages, towns , remote areas and conduct volunteer teaching in poverty-stricken area, etc.

Since Graduate Education Foundation special financial aid for social practice was launched in 2011, Graduate Department of XIOPM has attached great importance thereto. 4 projects in total of XIOPM have been granted financial aid up to now. Approved project groups complying with the spirit of “enhancing sense of responsibilities and missions and improving capacities and abilities” advocated by party committee of the institute, go into remote areas for many times in vocations. In order to save money, they choose to take hard-seat bus or even go trekking and buy food at roadside stands. At places facing serious water scarcity, they don’t take bath or wash. However, they take donor goods to mountainous area every time they go there. Members of project groups earnestly fulfill social responsibilities of graduates of CAS of new age. They have obtained true data from deep survey by rigorous and scientific methods, carried out objective analysis and completed project task successfully.

Besides, University of Chinese Academy of Sciences has reviewed first social survey projects in terms of breadth, quality and depth of each survey. Two projects completed by XIOPM, namely Investigation on Living Conditions of Left-Behind Children in Rural Area of Yuzhong County, Gansu Province (responsible person: Yu Dengqun) and Investigation on Living Conditions of Ecological Migrants in Baiyu Mountain Area and Problems Existed in the Process of Relocation (responsible person: Wang Chao), were graded as good. Among 33 projects involved in this concluding review, 8 projects were graded as excellent, 15 projects good, 7 projects passed while 3 projects were postponed.

The approval and successful development of graduate social survey projects of XIOPM provide opportunity to students to get in-depth knowledge of the society, cultivate spirit of bearing hardship and enhance sense of social responsibility.
