Popular Science Open Day held in XIOPM

Date: Jun 03, 2011

Popular Science Open Day was held in XIOPM on May 27. The graduate students from School of Technical Physics, Xidian University visited XIOPM led by Dean Zeng Xiaodong. Director Zhao Wei received them and gave a lecture.
Although in the same city --- Xi'an, it was the first time for most of the students to visit XIOPM. With desire and curiosity, they first came to the exhibition room of results, where the major achievements in various fields during the recent fifty years are on display including kerr-box speed camera in 1964, CCD stereo camera and spectral imager of Chang'e I and Chang’e II satellites in lunar exploration program, and so on. Exposure to many scientific and technological achievements, the students have deeply felt that people in XIOPM made significant achievements nearly half a century facing the forefront of world science and technology and major national needs based on the West and serving the country by technology. They have heartfelt respect for scientific workers’ spirits of pursuing excellence and tackling tough.
While fully engaged, Director Zhao Wei personally led them to visit State Key Laboratory of Transient Optics and Photonics. In the Lab. students are like walking into a magical world of light. Feeling the cutting-edge optics directly and effectively makes everyone excited, which also inspired them longing for the palace of optical science.

Director Zhao Wei made two lectures of "An Introduction of Scientific Researches in XIOPM" and "Let Talents Support Innovation and Surpass" and introduced the latest advances in optical research, development perspective and talents introduction in XIOPM.

The open day activities make the students have a new understanding of science and technology and also have a clearer target of their academic planning with the faith of serving the country by technology deeply in the hearts of everyone. At the same time, a number of students expressed the hope to work at XIOPM in the future.
