Hongjun Liu’s research team proposed a technology of stochastic resonance for reconstructing a scattered image, which is based on the spatial cross-phase modulation instability between partially incoherent beams. An original model is built to describe the nonlinear coupling, in which the energy directionally transfers from the background noise to the weak signal. Through reasonably controlling the noise statistics and coupling strength in a nonlinear medium, the profile and details of the underlying image dominated by the scattering noise are efficiently recovered with remarkable cross-correlation gains. This work suggests an efficient method of image detection and holds potential for broader imaging applications in dynamic scattering environments.
