Recently, incubation project “Game Video Science and Technology” of CAS XIOPM’s incubator “CAS Star” developed the global first somatosensorytechnology-combined virtual reality glasses system “UCglass”, with somatosensory identification technology and virtual-reality technology combined. Till now, there’s no relevant report in the world. The UCglass received great attention on the 3rd China Innovation & Entrepreneurship Competition and the 16th Shenzhen Hi-tech Trade Fair.
Virtual reality glasses system “UCglass” is a kind of wearable device that combines entertainment and health together. By wearing the device, the user seems to be exposed to another world, and can interact with another self in the virtual world with the sensor in hands, and the virtual world and the real world seem to be just separated by a mirror.
In the aspect of hardware, action recognition chip of UCglass is in the size of fingernail, and the multi-axis sensor integrated by chip is able to feel the user’s every movements quickly, sensitively and accurately. The product adopts large viewing angle fresnel diffraction lens and has realized full-eyepiece immersion effect, and the user in virtual world will not be affected by the outside.
Besides, UCglass team established somatosensoryvirtual reality development platform based on android and IOS system of cellphone. The product’s chip can be connected to the cellphone by Bluetooth 4.0, and the game developer only needs to invoke several lines codes to change the gamepad game into somatosensory control game.
By comparing with abroad similar products, the research and development team introduced somatosensory technology and combined the spatial gestures with glasses and made the experience more real. The user, at the time of enjoying extreme recreation, can do physical exercise. Hu Jinhui CTO of the team said: “when playing game is no longer clicking the screen with head down, but shaking the fist and swinging arms, the game will become a healthy sport.”
In China Innovation & Entrepreneurship Competition 2014, UCglass team was awarded the 5th prize of electronic information group. The responsible person Qin Zhanyang showed that “They are optimizing UCglass’s body feeling algorithm, which will help to make the whole set of sensor hardware models simpler and cost lower, and the mass can experience the novelty and beauty of this kind of technology”. The product is expected to raise funds on famous kickstarter website at the beginning of 2015, and start sales work formally.
