The 1st International Conference on Photonics & Optical Engineering 2014 (icPOE2014) and the 6th Western Photonics Academic Conference were held successfully in the ancient city Xi’an and achieved complete success. icPOE2014 was jointly hosted by Shaanxi Provincial Optical Society, Shaanxi Provincial Physical Society and Singapore Optics and Photonics Society, and jointly prepared by Xi’an Technological University, Xi’an Jiaotong University, XIOPM CAS, Xi’an Institute of Applied Optics and Nanyang Technological University.
This conference got support and sponsorship from CAS, NSFC and Shaanxi Provincial Optical Society and received support form SPIE periodicals.
Professor Jiang Zhuangde who concurrently holding the posts of honorary chairman of conference, academician of CAE, chairman of Shaanxi Association for Science and Technology, made an opening speech; professor Liu Weiguo, who concurrently holding the posts of chairman of conference and vice-president of Xi’an Technological University, presided over the opening ceremony; professor Anand K Asundi, chairman of Singapore Optics and Photonics Society, representing hosting units, delivered a welcome speech; researcher Zhao Wei namely president of Shaanxi Provincial Optical Society, president of CAS Xi’an Branch, director of XIOPM attended the opening ceremony.
There were over 220 participants attending the conference who were from 12 countries and regions. The icPOE 2014 set 6 topics: space optics, imaging spectrum technology, photoelectric materials and devices, optical design and manufacturing technology, optical measurement and testing as well as micro-nano manufacturing and testing, and received more than 150 academic papers. Besides, 7 international famous experts from China, Germany, Canada, Denmark and Japan were invited to attend the conference and deliver exciting keynote reports, separately are academician Tong Qingxi from Institute of Remote Sensing, CAS and CAS, academician Gong Qihuang from Beijing University and CAS, Liu Wenqing, the director of Hefei Institutes of Physical Science, CAS and academician of CAE, professor Wolfgang Osten, the director of Optical Center of University of Stuttgart, professor Gordon G. Shepherd, the director of Earth and Space Science Research Center, Canada York University, Steen Gruner Hanson, a professor of Technical University of Denmark and chairman of Denmark Optical Society, Mitsuo Takeda, a specially-appointed optical professor of Utsunomiya University and former chairman of Japan Optical Society.
Authors of 21 invitation reports, 26 papers exchange reports and more than 120 papers posted their works on the site and exchanged opinions on the conference. XIOPM, as the attached unit of Shaanxi Provincial Optical Society and one the hosting unit of icPOE 2014, dispatching a lot of front-line scientific research personnel to attend the conference, positively conducted international communication and submitted 9 papers on the conference which have all been listed in SPIE Papers. The researchers Yao Baoli, Hu Bingliang, Cheng Guanghua and Xue Bin separately made invitation reports regarding to the different topics. Yao Baoli, Cheng Guanghua, Xue Bin and Yu Jiangbo were separately appointed as chairmen of main sessions and parallel sessions. The success of the conference not only improved international view of XIOPM research personnel, but laid a foundation for conducting more extensive scientific research.
As the high-end international conference on academic communication, icPOE plays an important role in the field of photonics and optical engineering. The icPOE 2014 created a favorable condition for Shaanxi Provincial Optical Society in the aspect of deepening international communication and cooperation, improving influence of the Society and promoting optical technology development and provided international communication platform for cooperation and development of China’s photonics and optical engineering.
