In the morning on July 15, XIOPM carried out Chang’e Lunar Probe University Students Summer Camp 2014 as scheduled. More than 100 undergraduates from key universities all over the country will enjoy one-week summer camp in XIOPM. Director of XIOPM Zhao Wei, chief of Science and Management Department Xie Xiaoping, director of HR Department Man Peng, deputy director of State Key Laboratory of Transient Optics and Photonics Wang Yishan and young and middle-aged research backbones Su Xiuqin, Yang Hongtao, Wu Guojun, Feng Yutao, Li Siyuan and Li Yan, etc. participated in the opening ceremony which was presided by director of Department of Graduates Li Jinfang.
Zhao Wei expressed warm welcome to students and made report titled with New Generation Oriented Photonic Information and Photonic Network, giving detailed introduction to XIOPM’s profile, scientific research progress, graduates education and industry-university-research cooperation and steps and achievements in the aspect of concept changing, thought barriers removing, institute establishing and innovative scientific research modes opening, etc. Zhao Wei pointed out that science developed rapidly while it should be based on fundamental research eventually and the very basis was talents who were the young students present. He encouraged the students by telling learning experiences of many outstanding scientific backbones of XIOPM, hoping that they could cherish advantage study condition today, capturing pulse of frontier science and technology development nowadays, working hard on cultural knowledge, consolidating major basis and making contributions to national development in the future.
Zhao Wei expected the university students could take the summer camp as an opportunity to get to know XIOPM’s discipline features and innovation culture and make contribution to the promoting good exchange between the institute and universities.
Later, Tan from Zhejiang University, representative of summer camp members, spoke on the ceremony. “I am happy to be one of the members of Chang’e Lunar Probe Summer Camp and expect to experience rigorous academic atmosphere with you together in the following days and know the advanced equipments here. I am also looking forward to the close and face-to-face communication with advisors and seniors.” she said.
Chief of Science and Management Department Xie Xiaoping made a report titled with Superspeed Photonic Network Technology and Development to the camp members. His vivid and specific explanations and relaxed Q & A impressed the students.
During the summer camp, students will, organized by Department of Graduates, visit laboratories, communicate with scientific staff face to face, feel the charming of scientific research in person, listen to masters’ reports, and meet and exchange with senior fellows. In addition, they will attend table tennis games, billiards games, basketball games, urban visit and other various activities.
