On November 19, in the hall of Yuquan Road Campus, UCAS, University of Chinese Academy of Sciences (the UCAS) held the Award Ceremony 2013 upon Excellent Dissertation CAS, Prize of President Scholarship CAS, kinds of Title Sponsorship Prizes and Excellent Mentors Prize. President of CAS and president of UCAS Bai Chunli attended the ceremony and the teacher Zhang Wen from Graduates Department, XIOPM accepted the prizes on behalf of the prizewinners.

President Bai Chunli and the Prize-Winning Teachers and Students

In XIOPM, the doctoral student Wang Guoxi from Grade 2011 won the Special Prize of President Scholarship CAS; the academic dissertation Research on Dissipative Soliton Fiber Laser wrote by the doctoral student Wang Leiran from Grade 2008 won the Hundred Excellent Dissertation CAS; Wen Jin (Mentors: Zhao Wei, Liu Hongjun) won the Excellent Prize of President Scholarship CAS 2013. Dong Qiang, Han Dongdong, Lin Xiao, Sheng Lizhi, Yang Hongtao, Yun Ling, Zhan Huan, Zhao Yiyi and Zhou Wei won Pollyanna Chu Excellent Doctoral Students of CAS, 2013. It is reported that in 2013, 40 graduates of XIOPM won the Special Prize of President Scholarship CAS, 84 dissertations won the Excellent Dissertation Prize CAS, 240 graduates won Excellent Prize of President Scholarship CAS and 240 graduates won Pollyanna Chu scholarship.

Wang Guoxi who won the Special Prize of President Scholarship CAS was enrolled to XIOPM in September 2009, taking a master’s degree of optics. In September 2011, he transferred to master-doctor combined program, focusing on the study of new micro-nano photonic device based on surface plasmon polaritons. The student, as the first author, published 8 SCI dissertations, 5 of which had an IF more than 3, including the one published on the Applied Physics Letters which is an international top journal of applied physics and the one published on Optics Letters which is an international top journal of optics. He was invited to write the summary for Chinese Science Bulletin. Two of his papers were selected the Image of the Week by OSA and his research result about Near Zero Dispersion Slow Light Waveguide was specially reported by China Science Daily.

Wang Leiran who won the Hundred Excellent Dissertation CAS was enrolled in September 2006 and obtained the doctorate of science. At present, he works in the State Key Laboratory of Transient Optics and Photonics of XIOPM. His dissertation Research on Dissipative Soliton Fiber Laser, on the basis of different cavity structures and mode locking mechanism, studies the laser’s typical behavior characteristics in multiple fields of optical fiber dispersion map and promotes two new types of high-energy, wave-free splitting dissipative soliton pulses which improves the pulse energy and chirp of traditional soliton for three orders of magnitude and provides helpful theory and experiment basis for the frontier research of new type high-energy ultra-wideband pulse technology. He, as the first author, published 10 SCI papers, one of which was selected as the Hundred Most Powerful International Academic Paper of China 2010. His research results were cited and reviewed by home and foreign research groups for many times. The paper that he is as the first author was cited for up to 36 times by SCI papers. He, for many times, was specially invited to be the paper reviewer by SPIE and has been authorized 2 patents for invention. During the study, he won the Excellent Prize of President Scholarship CAS, Outstanding Graduate, Pollyanna Chu Doctoral Student Prize and Zutong Scholarship, etc.

Wen Jing who won the Excellent Prize of President Scholarship CAS 2013 was enrolled in September 2008 and transferred to master-doctor combined program in September 2010, engaging in optical parametric amplification theory and experiment on the basis of high-nonlinear photonic crystal fiber and silicon-based waveguide ultrafast four-wave mixing effect. He, as the first author, published 5 papers on the international famous SCI journals like Optics Express and Applied Physics B and attended international and home academic exchange meeting for 6 times. He won the Baosteel Excellent Student Prize 2011 and National Scholarship for Graduates 2012. For multiple times, he was awarded the honorary titles like the Excellent Student and Excellent Student Leader and Excellent Party Member of XIOPM CAS 2012.

All the scholarship and prizes awarded by CAS will encourage teachers and students of XIOPM to keep working and inventing and create great glories.
