The modern world has entered into new phase of breakthrough in scientific revolution and our country faces unprecedented opportunities and challenges in the development of society, economy and science & technology. In order to make the professional committee to play a better role in fields of fiber optics and integrated optics, to contribute ideas to the nation in the aspects of discipline orientation, development prospect and strategic consideration and to promote the fiber optics and integrated optics to develop further, the Strategy Seminar of Professional Committee of Fiber Optics and Integrated Optics, COS 2013 was held in Zutong Building, XIOPM, CAS from November 7 to November 8, 2013. 

Director of the Professional Committee Liu Desen, Executive Deputy Director of the Professional Committee and Director of XIOPM Zhao Wei, Deputy Directors Liu Shiyong, Jin Wei, Deputy Secretary General Guo Haitao attended the meeting. The attendees also included many experts in the field of fiber optics and integrated optics who came from Tsinghua University, Zhejiang University, University of Science and Technology of China, Jilin University, Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Sun Yat-Sen University, Dalian University of Technology, Xi’an Jiaotong University, Shenzhen University, University of Electronic Science and Technology of China and Harbin Engineering University. Researchers from XIOPM like Yao Baoli, Cheng Dong, Cheng Guanghua and Associate Researcher Zhang Wenfu as well as Deputy Chief of Department of Scientific Research Man Peng attended the meeting too. The meeting was hosted by the Director Zhao Wei and focused on 15 important speeches. On the meeting, Researcher Cheng Dong and Associate Researcher Zhang Wenfu from XIOPM respectively gave their important speeches, with titles “Discussion on Photonic Integration Industry Trends and Coping Strategy” and “Photonic Integration Technology and Development Thinking”.  

On the meeting, people reached a consensus about the development direction of the future disciplines like fiber optics and integrated optics, proposed the current key research direction and detailed research contents of the professional committee according to the scientific development trend of modern world, national development demands and advantages fields of the professional committee, and meanwhile pointed the direction for the further development of fiber optics and integrated optics.
