On June 29, Graduate Enrollment Open Day organized by University of Chinese Academy of Sciences (hereinafter referred to as UCAS) and undertook by XIOPM was held in XIOPM. About 500 undergraduates from Xi’an Jiaotong University, Northwestern Polytechnical University, Xidian University, Northwest University and other high-level universities of Xi’an, 8 universities in total, appeared and attended the activities of the day.
At 9:00 a.m., the Open Day Activities was raised the curtain at Zutong Building Academic Report Hall of XIOPM. The director Zhao Wei made an opening speech as well as a keynote speech titled Catering to Photonic Information and Photonic Network of the New Generation. Afterwards, deputy director Ran Yingzhi, from Graduate Admission Office of UCAS, made a detailed introduction in relation to the basic information, admission policy, graduate cultivation and other aspects of UCAS and proposed suggestion about the questions the students concerns when registering for examination. After that, staff members who are in charge of admission of the 14 units made keynote speeches as respect of units’ conditions, discipline orientation, and admission information, etc. After finishing the report, each unit set up enquiry points at parallel sessions of Graduation Education Center, communicated with candidates face to face and answered questions of students in detail. In the afternoon, the students，guided by the volunteers，visited Scientific Research Achievements Exhibition Room and State Key Laboratory of Transient Optics and Photonics of XIOPM as well as Femto Technology (Xi’an) Co., Ltd., etc.

Through the Open Day Activities, the students intuitively got an understanding of the scientific research strength, strong academic atmosphere, intense and orderly study and life as well as admission and graduate cultivation of UCAS. Their understanding of discipline characteristics, admission system and cultivation system etc. of XIOPM were also strengthened at the same time which received expected results.
26 units or departments participated in this activity, including Graduate Admission Office of UCAS, National Space Science Center, Institute of Soil and Water Conservation, Institute of Physics, Institute of Chemistry, Institute of High Energy Physics, Technical Institute of Physics and Chemistry, Institute of Electrical Engineering, Institute of Semiconductors, Institute of Geology and Geophysics, Institute of Information Engineering, Institute of Nanoenergy and Nanosystems, SIOM, Shanghai Institute of Microsystem And Information Technology, Shanghai Institute of Ceramics, Institute of Urban Environment, Purple Mountain Observatory, Dalian Institute of Chemical Physics, Chang Chun Institute of Applied Chemistry, Institute of Metal Research, Shenyang Institute of Automation, Chongqing Institute of Green and Intelligent Technology, School of Life Sciences, Institute of Earth Environment and XIOPM etc.
In order to successfully hold the Open Day Activities, the Department of Graduate Education attached great importance. They made careful plan and arrangement, recruited more than 30 admission publicity volunteers who braved the intense heat of summer went to the high-level universities to give out publicity materials and entrance tickets. On the site, they also carefully answered the questions that the candidates concerned and actively involved in advocacy which expanded the influence of Chinese Academy of Sciences and XIOPM on the students of high-level universities.
It is further reported that the admission publicity is the focus of 2013 work plan of Department of Graduate Education. Since May, Department of Graduate Education of XIOPM has successively held admission publicity lectures in relevant universities like Zhejiang University, Nanjing University, Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Sichuan University, University of Electronic Science and Technology of China, Dalian University of Technology, Northwestern Polytechnical University and Xidian University. In the future, XIOPM will hold “XIOPM 2013 “Chang’e’s Ascent to the Moon” Summer Camp”, “Special Performance Consultancy” and other publicity activities for the purpose of improving the quality of student source in 2014 to a new level.
