Launch Ceremony of “Sci-tech and Education Combination Program” Held in Beijing

On August 29, Ministry of Education and CAS launched the “Sci-tech and Education Combination Program” in Beijing, cooperating to promote deep integration of sci-tech and education and finding new mode that cultivating creative talents jointly by universities and research institutes. Member of Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the CPC and State Councilor Liu Yandong attended the launch ceremony and addressed the meeting. Director of CAS Bai Chunli and principals of Ministry of Education are present, too. Director Zhao Wei of XIOPM showed up and signed “Sci-tech and Education Combination Program” Strategic Partnership Agreement with Xidian University at the scene.

The first group of “Sci-tech and Education Combination Program” includes more than 80 CAS institutes and more than 50 universities. Every year, over 150,000 graduates and undergraduates will participate in the program and over 1,800 academicians, scientists and professors will give lessons in universities and popular science lectures in secondary schools. On the launch ceremony, 21 “211” universities and 31 research institutes including XIOPM signed the strategic partnership agreement at the scene. Director Zhao Wei of XIOPM signed the “Sci-tech and Education Combination Program” Strategic Partnership Agreement on behalf of XIOPM with Xidian University.
After the “Sci-tech and Education Combination Program” Strategic Partnership Agreement formally signed, XIOPM and Xidian University will cooperate to cultivate undergraduates and graduates and carry our academic exchange and sci-tech collaboration in different aspects. In terms of undergraduate cultivation plan, XIOPM will admit 30 outstanding undergraduates who concentrated on the fields of optical information, electronic information and relevant disciplines from Xidian University, setting up a “Zutong Elite Class” which implements cooperated cultivation in “3+1” mode, namely that the students, in the first 3 years, will lean professional knowledge of their own majors and in the 4th year, engage in hands-on instruction and graduation design in the institute; and finally the excellent ones will be admitted into the institute to pursue graduate degree.
