The 5th International Symposium on Ultra-fast Phenomena & Terahertz Waves Successfully Held

“The 5th International Symposium on Ultra-fast Phenomena & Terahertz Waves” (ISUPTW 2010) was held on September 12-16, 2010 in Xi’an, an ancient city, hosted jointly by Xi'an Institute of Optics and Precision Mechanics of CAS and State Key Laboratory of Transient Optics and Photonics, and co-organized by National Natural Science Foundation of China, Chinese Academy of Sciences, High Speed Photography and Photonics Professional Committee of Chinese Optical Society, State Key Laboratory of Functional Materials for Informatics, Institute of Physics of Chinese Academy of Sciences, and Xi'an University of Technology. More than 150 experts and scholars attended the meeting, which are from 12 countries: China, the United States, Japan, Germany, Britain, France, Korea, Canada, Finland, Australia, Austria, and Singapore.

 

The opening ceremony was chaired by Chairman of the Organizing Committee of ISUPTW 2010, who is from State Key Laboratory of Transient Optics and Photonics of XIOPM. Researcher Zhao Wei, Director of State Key Laboratory of Transient Optics and Photonics and XIOPM, Professor X-C. Zhang from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in USA, Professor C hang from University of Central Florida in USA are served as the presidents of the Symposium. Academician Hou Xun from XIOPM and Academician Yao Jianquan from Tianjin University attended the opening ceremony.



The Symposium carried on an extensive and in-depth discussion mainly on the latest developments, challenges and opportunities, and the future development of "Ultra-fast Laser Technology" and "Terahertz Waves Research" in the world today. The Symposium invited the following well-known scholars to make plenary lectures: Professor Daniel R. Grischkowsky from Oklahoma State University in USA, Professor X-C. Zhang from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in USA, Professor Franz X. Kaertner from Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Professor Martin Richardson and Professor C hang from University of Central Florida in USA, Professor Fran?ois Légaré from INRS-EMT in Canada, Academician Yao Jianquan from Tianjin University, Professor Sheng Zhengming from Shanghai Jiaotong University, Professor Liu Weiwei from Nankai University, and Dr. Nicholas Karpowicz from Max-Planck-Institute for Quantum Optics in Germany. The experts from State Key Laboratory of Transient Optics and Photonics, XIOPM introduced mainly the research progress in the field of Ultra-fast Laser Technology and Terahertz Technology & Application.

This Symposium have received a total of 122 abstracts, of which there are 10 plenary lectures, 34 invited lectures, 36 oral presentations and 42 posted lectures. These papers will be published in Chinese Optics Letters undergo a rigorous review.
