On June 29, president of Italian Consorzio Nazionale Interuniversitario per le Telecomunicazioni, vice president of Scuola Superiore Sant’Anna, Prof. Prati as well as the other two Italian experts visited Xi’an Institute of Optics and Precision Mechanics. Their scientific investigation will promote the cooperation between two countries on ultrafast photonic communication in the future.

During their visit, executive deputy director, Prof. ZHAO Wei together with other experts had a strategic conversation with Prof. Giancarlo Prati on strengthening scientific cooperation. Both sides agreed on establishing “China-Italy Joint Laboratory of Ultrafast Photonic Processing for Communication Networks”. Then, Prof. ZHAO Wei and Prof. Giancarlo Prati, on behalf of Xi’an Institute of Optics and Precision Mechanics, Chinese Academy of Sciences, and Italian Consorzio Nazionale Interuniversitario per le Telecomunicazioni and Scuola Superiore Sant’Anna, respectively, signed the agreement.

Prof. Giancarlo Prati also extended a presentation entitled “Ultrafast Photonic Communication Technology” to our staff, and visited State Key Laboratory on Transient Optics and Photonics. Our institute invited Prof. Giancarlo Prati as visiting professor and conferred the appointment letter.

It is reported that delegation of ministero dell'istruzione, dell'universita e della ricerca of Italy will visit China in July. During their visit, they will sign governmental scientific cooperation agreement with the Chinese Academy of Sciences and Ministry of Science and Technology, China. The scientific cooperation between our institute and Italian sides, and “China-Italy Joint Laboratory of Ultrafast Photonic Processing for Communication Networks” will be taken into China-Italy scientific cooperation frame. The establishment of the laboratory will also promote our research on this field. Meanwhile, taking this opportunity, our institute will strengthen communication with international scientific world.
